All Things Autumn
Our first week of Nursery!
We are so proud of all of the children for how well they have began their Nursery journey at Hollybush! The children have loved exploring their new learning environment and outside area. We have spent lots of time getting to know our new friends and our new teachers. Here are some photos of our first week! We learnt about feelings and Sarah came to teach us some Makaton signs. We read 'Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?' story and we started developing our skills to become successful writers.
Week Commencing 16.09.24
This week we are learning about 'Marvellous Me'. The children read stories 'Marvelous Me' and 'Happy in Our Skin'. We then talked about what we look like and compared colours of our skin using different shades of paint. We also used our senses to explore our kitchen ingredients to find our shade of skin. The strawberry milkshake was our favourite. We had lots of fun outside being chased by the big bad wolf and visited Forest School for the first time. On Friday we engaged in our P.E. lesson where we are practising ball skills. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

We had another very busy week full of learning. We learnt about what our families look like and looked at different types of families in Art. The children then had a go at drawing their self-potraits and creating black and white family art. Some children showed some fascinations in seeds inside the apples and snakes. We learnt about how apples grow and explored different types of snakes on Google. In Makaton this week we learnt animals sings. We can now sign a cat, a dog, a hamster, a horse, a sheep and many more. In Phonics we played 'Guess a sound' game and in Maths we are currently usinging our noticing skills to develop our mathematical language.

We had so much fun showing our grown ups around the nursery during our Stay and Play session On Tuesday. This session was all about the importance of play. We also had our Harvest assembly for grandparents and other significant adults. The children were amazing at singing 'I am a dingle dangle scarecrow' using Makaton sings. The children are getting very good at understanding a composition of numbers 1 - 3 and are very quick at identifying amounts to 3. We have been exploring Autumn and read a story 'We are going on a leaf hunt'.

What a wet start to a week! However, this did not stop us from our learning. We used this opportunity to explore some mathematical concepts such as full and empty, more and less. We practised our counting when collecting raindrops in pots and discussing how many more we would need to fill the pot to the top. We took risks when pretending to be 'the biggest giant in town' and jumping off logs. In our forest school lesson this week, we were searching for autumnual objects and worked colleboratively lifting large logs to find these objects. In our Maths session, we consolidated our deep understanding of numbers to 3 and started learning about number 4. We also used our creativity and develop some science skills to make hedgehogs. Another very busy week!
