English

Within daily English lessons we will be focussing on:

Explanation Texts, Instructional writing, Vocabulary building through poetry, Recounts and Cinquain poetry.

Within each of these detailed units of work we will be immersing ourselves in the text type with particular books being used to focus our understanding. There will be opportunities for speaking and listening, drama, role play and reading as well as more traditional writing activities. Each unit focuses on building up the skills necessary to writing the focus text and then an extended writing piece which involves opportunities for the children to edit and improve their own writing. We will also be having weekly grammar lessons, daily handwriting sessions and frequent spelling sessions to focus on the technical side of the English language which will lend coherence and accuracy to our writing.
