Year 5

Year 5 Create Term

This term the focus will be art and music.  English and Maths will be taught every morning and the children will have PE on Mondays and Tuesday.  Today (09.05.2025) we have started a new English unit which is based on the book, 'The Depth of the Lake and the Height of the Sky'  In Maths our current focus is on Shape and we are following the White Rose scheme.  In science we have started a topic all about life-cycles which will be followed after half-term with unit about how humans change from a baby to old age.

This half-term we have started the No Outsiders programme.  This will complement our existing PSHE lessons and will help children understand the importance of difference and inclusivity.

Welcome to the Year 5 class page

Welcome back, everyone! I have missed being at school and can't wait to start our Saxon and DT learning journey. This term, with your help, I plan to do the following: Make a Battle Belt, learn how to stitch, make a shield and re-enact a Saxon Battle. We also hope to cook Saxon food and maybe even build a catapult.

I hope you all had a restful and memorable holiday and are looking forward to the days getting longer.

Our curriculum at Hollybush is split into three 'subject focused' terms;

Children will still be studying the whole curriculum, but we will be doing in depth study's of our focus subjects in each term:

- Explore Term (Geography, Science focus)

- Discover Term (History, D&T focus)

- Create Term (Art & Music focus)
