I expect children to read for at least 10 minutes each day at home to an adult.  This provides a great opportunity for parents and carers to take an interest in their child's reading.  Try and carve out a regular time so it becomes part of your child's daily routine.  Perhaps straight after tea or before they watch television or log onto their gaming device.  Just listening to your child read for a short period each day will make such a difference.  To help develop their comprehension skills, ask them one or two questions about what they have read.  In addition to listening to them read please read to them as well.  I suggest you choose another book, perhaps one they have really enjoy, a recent gift or one you have borrowed from Hertford Library.

In June, all Year 4 children sit the Multiplication Tables Check, a government times table test.  Children will be tested on all their tables up to and including the 12x tables.  It's important that children learn their times table facts and can recall them quickly.  This will significantly help them in upper key stage 2 maths and at secondary school.  You can help your child by ensuring they spend at least 5 minutes each evening on Times Table Rock Stars.  Their login details are on the inside of the front cover of their reading records.
